Who this is for

Who this is for

Plants where a laser sits in the middle of the production chain and nothing moves when it stops.

  • Flexo prepress and trade shops running digital platesetters, where a drifting imager quietly degrades every plate that leaves the building.
  • Label converters with laser die cutting in a narrow web line.
  • Folding carton and corrugated plants running digital cutting and creasing.
  • Flexible packaging converters with laser scoring, perforation and easy-open features.
  • Gravure and rotary screen engraving houses with cylinder and screen engraving machines.
  • Any packaging line with laser coders marking date, lot and serialisation data.
What we do

What we do

01

Diagnose

Fault localization through the source, modulation, beam delivery, optics, extraction, cooling, motion and control chain, with the measurement method agreed before we travel.

02

Repair

Component-level work on sources, drive and RF electronics, optics and beam paths, thermal systems, vacuum, motion and control hardware, including substitution where an original part is no longer available.

03

Measure

Delivered power recorded against the machine reference, before and after, so a repair is judged by a number rather than by how the output looks.

04

Retrofit

Control, drive and interface retrofits where the mechanics are sound and the electronics or embedded software have outlived their support.

05

Preventive maintenance

Scheduled inspection with written reports, so machine condition is documented before it becomes downtime.

06

Document

Measured baselines, settings, pinouts and test methods handed over, so the machine does not depend on one person's memory.

Not sure which of those you need?

Send the machine, the model and what changed. We respond with the next step and a fixed evaluation fee before anyone travels.

Being listed here means the platform is within our service scope. What a specific machine needs is settled by its configuration, its parts situation and the measurements the job requires, and we confirm both before anyone travels.

Coverage

Where we travel

Parsippany, New Jersey is the base and the Northeast gets the fastest response. Beyond that we fly. A machine-down call anywhere in the United States or Canada is a flight and a rental car, and we price travel separately and clearly rather than burying it.

Scheduled work, installations, retrofits and preventive maintenance visits are planned nationally. For an urgent call, tell us the state and the machine and we will tell you realistically when we can be on site.

Scope of work

What we repair and what we replace

Repair on this equipment is not one job. It is a set of different jobs, and which one you need depends on what the evaluation finds. The table below is the honest version of what that work looks like: what gets opened and put right, and what gets taken out and replaced. Which column a given fault lands in is decided by measurement, not by preference.

SubsystemWhat typically gets repairedWhat typically gets replaced
Laser sourceOutput and stability checked against reference, connections, protective windows and collimation attended to, cooling path to the source restoredPump diode modules, complete source modules, output windows, protective windows, collimators, fiber pigtails and source-side connectors
Modulator and RF driveRF drive level and matching brought back into range, connectors and cabling made good, driver boards repaired at component levelAcousto-optic modulator assemblies, RF driver amplifiers, matching networks, RF cabling and connectors, driver control boards
Beam delivery and opticsBeam path cleaned and realigned, focus and standoff reset, mounts and adjusters freed and resetMirrors, lenses, beam expanders, output and protective windows, focus assemblies, galvo scanner heads, scan lenses, fiber cables
Power electronicsPower supplies rebuilt, boards repaired at component level, wiring and terminations corrected, earthing and shielding restoredCapacitors, rectifiers, IGBT and MOSFET modules, supply modules, fans, relays, contactors, fuses, complete PCBs where repair is not the right answer
Thermal and coolingCircuits flushed and descaled, flow and temperature control brought back into spec, leaks traced and closedChiller pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fans, hoses and fittings, flow switches, temperature sensors, coolant and filters
Motion and drivesAxes re-homed and recalibrated, backlash and registration corrected, drive tuning restoredBearings, belts, ball screws, linear rails and blocks, servo and stepper motors, drives, encoders, couplings, limit switches
Drum, vacuum and web handlingVacuum leaks traced and sealed, clamping and holding pressure restored, runout corrected, web path and tension resetVacuum pumps, seals and gaskets, valves, rollers and bearings, drum surface components, tension sensors, guide and registration parts
Extraction and airAirflow restored, ducting resealed, extraction monitoring brought back into serviceBlowers and impellers, filters and filter media, ducting sections, air assist nozzles, pressure and flow sensors
Control and electricalHarnesses repaired and rerouted, I/O faults traced and corrected, control software and configuration restored from your own backupsIndustrial PCs and drive storage, HMI panels, PLC and I/O modules, interface and motion boards, wiring harnesses, sensors, interlock switches, safety relays
Safety circuitsInterlocks and emergency stop chains restored to correct function and documentedInterlock switches, safety relays, shutters, enclosure hardware, indicator and warning devices
Retrofit and modernizationAn obsolete subsystem engineered out and a supported one engineered in, with the interface and the differences documentedObsolete sources replaced with current equivalents, control hardware migrated to supported platforms, obsolete chillers and drives replaced

Two rules run through all of it. Anything we replace is documented with what came out and what went in, and anything we repair is validated by measurement afterwards rather than by whether the machine switches on. If a part turns out to be a failed custom assembly with no substitute available, we say so in writing instead of billing an attempt.

Obsolete and unavailable parts

A discontinued part is a sourcing and engineering problem, not automatically the end of the machine. Depending on the item, the route is a current-production equivalent fitted and verified, a qualified substitute with the differences written down, a harness or cable made to suit, or a board repaired at component level because the board itself is no longer sold. We tell you which of those we are proposing before you approve it.

Process

How a job runs

  1. Send what you have. Machine, model, serial number, what changed, and any measurements or photographs. We respond with the next step.
  2. Written scope and fixed evaluation fee. Quoted before anyone travels, with the measurements to be taken and the expected turnaround.
  3. Evaluation on site or on the bench. As-found condition recorded, delivered power measured against the machine reference, subsystems assessed in order.
  4. Written findings. What was measured, what was found, what remains unknown, and the options with their cost and risks.
  5. Your approval. Nothing is repaired, substituted or modified until you approve the scope and price in writing.
  6. Repair, validation and report. Work inside the approved scope, measured validation, and a written service report for your maintenance records.
Metrology

Measurement, defined per job

Every job names its measurements before it starts. PhaseX defines and provides the measurement capability the work requires, drawing on owned, rented or qualified third-party resources arranged as required. Optical power is measured with a thermopile-type meter carrying current traceable calibration, and the proposal states where each measurement comes from together with the acceptance criteria.

We do not offer manufacturer-equivalent calibration, and we do not certify a machine to original published specifications where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable. What we document is the measured condition on arrival, the fault found, the work performed, and the measured condition on completion.

Scope and safety

Two limits

  • We do not promise a specific repair before diagnosis. The evaluation comes first and the repair scope follows from it.
  • We do not certify a machine to original published specifications where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable.

Warranty

If your machine is still inside its manufacturer warranty, use the manufacturer, or get written authorization from the seller first. Our work is out-of-warranty and legacy equipment.

Laser safety on your site

Class 4 work is planned and executed under a project-specific laser safety plan agreed with your plant before we arrive. The required engineering controls, personal protective equipment, beam management and facility conditions are defined in writing before any energized optical work begins. Final hazard analysis and approval stay with your own EHS function.

Independent service

PhaseX Laser Services is an independent third-party service provider, not affiliated with or authorized by Esko, Miraclon, Kodak, Hell, SPGPrints, Domino, Videojet, Markem-Imaje or any other manufacturer named on this page unless expressly stated in writing. Brand and model names identify equipment only.

Questions packaging plants ask

Do you service Esko CDI imagers?

Yes, and the laser subsystems inside them: the fiber source, the acousto-optic modulator and its RF drive, the imaging optics and head, and the drum, vacuum and control sections. We are not an authorized Esko service provider and hold no affiliation with Esko.

Which packaging laser machines do you cover?

Flexo plate imaging, laser die cutting and converting, gravure and rotary screen engraving, production line coding and marking, and anilox and cylinder laser cleaning. The A to Z list on this page names the platforms, including legacy models their manufacturers have moved off the current catalog.

Our machine's manufacturer is gone or no longer supports it. Can you help?

That is a large part of this work. These machines are built from identifiable subsystems, so the absence of a vendor relationship does not by itself end a repair. What ends one is a failed custom assembly with no available substitute, and we establish that before quoting rather than after.

Where do you travel?

Across the United States. Parsippany, New Jersey is the base and the Northeast gets the fastest response, but a machine-down call in any state is a flight and a rental car. Travel is quoted separately and clearly.

How does a job start and what does it cost?

Send the machine, model and serial number, what changed and any measurements you have. We respond with the next step. Where a site visit makes sense you get a fixed evaluation fee quoted before anyone travels, written findings with the measured numbers, and a separate repair quotation you approve before any further work.
