A cutting machine that has stopped, and a cutting machine that still runs but no longer produces parts you can sell, are two different service calls. We take both. Frame and motion, CNC and drives, gas and extraction, chilling and safety circuits, on flat-bed, tube, combination and coil-fed machines from a long list of builders including ones no longer trading.
Sheet metal cutters, tube and profile machines, combination machines, coil-fed lines and plate gantries all sit here, and so do the CO2 cutting machines still earning their keep. It is worth separating machine from laser because owners and suppliers routinely conflate them. The machine is the frame, the motion system and its drives, the CNC and the control platform, the table or exchanger, the assist gas path and regulation, the extraction and filtration, the chiller loops, the enclosure and the safety circuit. The laser is the source and what carries its light to the work. A machine can be perfectly healthy while the laser is not, and it can equally be the machine that has failed while the laser is sound.
“The laser is not cutting through” is the sentence we hear most, and it is a machine question as often as a laser one: assist gas, focus and height control, motion, or a chiller fault holding the source in derate can all produce it. That is the first question of any service call: is this a laser problem or a machine problem? The answer changes who should be on site, what should ship, and what a realistic repair costs. It is also the question that gets skipped when an owner is handed a quote for a new source.
These are the descriptions we are given. Each one is produced by more than one cause, so none of them identifies a fault on its own. They are the right way to start a request, and every one of them is something you can see without opening anything.
On imported machines the control platform is often the part that decides whether a repair is straightforward or an expedition. Cypcut and FSCUT from Friendess, Beckhoff and Siemens based controls, Fanuc on older machines, and a long list of servo and drive brands including Delta, Yaskawa, Panasonic, Estun, Inovance and Leadshine. The hardware is usually obtainable. What is often not obtainable is the licence, the dongle, the parameter set or the machine-specific configuration, and that is a different kind of problem from a failed board.
Our scope covers the control and drive hardware, the I/O and safety circuits, and re-establishing a working configuration where the records have been lost. Where the right answer is replacing the control chain rather than nursing it, that is a retrofit, and we will tell you which of the two your machine needs rather than quoting whichever is larger.
Cut-quality calls can resolve in the services around the machine rather than in the laser or the head, and these are the items least likely to be on a maintenance list. Assist gas pressure, purity and regulation; a nitrogen generator or bulk supply that has drifted; compressed air quality; extraction and filtration that no longer clears the cabin; chillers running warm or with poor water quality; cabinet cooling in a hot summer shop. These are unglamorous and they are in scope, because a machine that cannot be supplied properly cannot cut properly no matter what is repaired upstream.
Consumable and filter life, like protective window life, is information. A change in how fast the shop is consuming something is worth reporting with the fault.
Imported machines change dealers, dealers stop trading, and builders dissolve. What that removes is the documentation route, the parts route and the phone number, not the machine. A frame with good mechanics, a serviceable source and a dead control platform is a candidate for repair or for a control retrofit, and both are compared against capital replacement in writing before you commit to any of them.
What we need to start is modest: the machine model and serial number, the source model if you have it, the control platform name on the operator panel, and what changed. You do not need to open anything to answer that, and you do not need to identify the failed part before contacting us.
Stated as scope rather than as a method. What a given machine needs is settled by its condition and by the written findings, and nothing is repaired, substituted or modified until you approve the scope and the price.
| Subsystem | Typically repaired | Typically replaced |
|---|---|---|
| CNC, control and HMI | Control hardware and industrial PCs repaired; configuration and parameter sets re-established where records are lost | Obsolete controls and HMIs, replaced as a matched chain |
| Servo drives and motion | Drives, motors, encoders and wiring repaired at component level; positioning and repeatability assessed and reported | Drives and motor groups out of production, replaced as a group rather than singly |
| Assist gas and air | Path, regulation, filtration and leak condition addressed as part of the engagement | Regulators, valves and filtration at end of life |
| Extraction and filtration | Fans, ducting, controls and filter housings serviced and reported | Filter elements and units no longer capable of the duty |
| Chilling and thermal | Loops, flow, water quality and control addressed | Chillers at end of life, sized against the machine and the source |
| Enclosure and safety | Interlocks, guarding hardware and safety circuits repaired and documented | Components that cannot be brought back to a defensible condition |
We do not promise a specific repair before diagnosis, and we do not certify equipment to original published specifications where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable.
PhaseX Laser Services is a registered DBA of CoreX Robotics Services LLC and an independent service company. We are not an authorized service centre, agent, representative or affiliate of any manufacturer named on this page, and we do not perform manufacturer warranty work. Brand and model names identify equipment only and remain the property of their respective owners. Work on equipment under an active manufacturer warranty is performed only within a scope authorized in writing by the equipment seller or manufacturer.
Work is carried out to the site rules and the laser safety arrangements in force at your facility. Where a machine has to be run with guarding open for a measurement, that is agreed in advance with your safety officer and recorded in the scope.
Tell us the machine, the control platform, what it reports and what changed. We reply with an assessment and, where a site visit is the right shape, a written scope and a fixed evaluation fee before anyone travels. Call (551) 379-6083 if it is faster than typing.
Not necessarily. Positioning, repeatability, drives, the table and the frame are machine questions, and they produce parts that fail inspection while the laser is healthy. Separating the two is the first thing the evaluation does.
Yes. That is a documentation and parts problem rather than a machine problem. See machines whose builder is gone, and where the answer is replacing rather than nursing a subsystem, the retrofit page covers it.
Yes, along with coil-fed and blanking lines, plate gantries and robotic cells built on the same optics. Tell us which it is, because the motion and handling questions differ even when the laser does not.
Yes. Monthly and quarterly preventive maintenance programs are set out on the preventive maintenance page, with the interval set per machine rather than by a calendar rule.
Five fields to start, and no obligation either way. We reply with an assessment and, where site or bench work makes sense, a written scope and a fixed fee for your approval.
