A cladding or deposition cell is a welding cell with a feed path added, and the feed path is where most of the frustration lives. We take the cell as a whole: source, head, delivery, motion, shielding and control.
Laser material deposition is in wide industrial use for repairing turbomachinery components and for coating rollers and cylinders: the laser forms a melt pool and metal is fed into it, layer by layer, along a controlled path. Coaxial wire heads exist alongside powder ones, and high-speed variants are used as an alternative to hard chrome.
As a machine, that is a high-power source, beam delivery to a cladding or welding head, a powder or wire delivery path with its own mechanism, a robot or motion system, shielding gas, and a cell controller with its safety chain. The head is not a cutting head and the powder feeder is not a wire feeder; they are separate mechanisms with separate failure behaviour, and a proposal that treats them as one is not worth reading.
The deposit is the signal. These are the forms it takes:
In scope: the high-power source with its power supplies, driver and control electronics and thermal hardware; beam delivery and the cladding or welding head with its optics and cooling; the powder or wire delivery hardware; the robot or motion system and its controller; shielding gas delivery; the cell controller, interlocks and safety chain; extraction around the cell.
The powder or wire delivery path is evaluated against the configuration in front of us, and whether it is repaired, replaced or routed to a partner is settled in the written proposal after the inspection - not promised before it.
Not in scope: metallurgical and dimensional qualification of a deposited layer. That is the customer’s, and where the component is a certified part it belongs to the certificate holder and the regulator. We service the cell. We never sign for the part.
Fixed evaluation fee, quoted before travel. The cell is recorded as found, including the feed mechanism and its condition, and you receive a written report with the repair, replace or route decision set out per subsystem and the commercial options against each.
Enough to answer you properly, and nothing that needs the machine opened.
We do not promise a specific repair before diagnosis, and we do not certify equipment to original published specifications where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable.
PhaseX Laser Services is a registered DBA of CoreX Robotics Services LLC and an independent service company. We are not an authorized service centre, agent, representative or affiliate of any manufacturer named on this page, and we do not perform manufacturer warranty work. Brand and model names identify equipment only and remain the property of their respective owners. Work on equipment under an active manufacturer warranty is performed only within a scope authorized in writing by the equipment seller or manufacturer.
Metallurgical and dimensional qualification of a deposited layer is the customer's. Powder and wire delivery hardware is evaluated against the configuration in front of us, and whether it is repaired, replaced or routed to a partner is settled in the written proposal after the inspection.
Work is carried out to the site rules and the laser safety arrangements in force at your facility. The Laser Safety Officer is designated by the employer, never by PhaseX; hazard classification, nominal hazard zone determination and any compliance opinion stay with your own officer.
Both are in scope. The powder or wire delivery path is a separate mechanism from the source and the head, and we treat it as one: it is evaluated against the configuration in front of us, and the written proposal states whether we repair it, replace it, or route it to a partner better placed to. What we do not do is promise an answer before the inspection.
We can tell you the state of the equipment that produced it, in writing. Where the cause is in the hardware, that is the answer. What we cannot do is qualify the deposit itself - the metallurgical and dimensional judgement is yours, against your own specification and records.
It changes who owns the outcome, and it is worth being explicit about. Airworthiness, part certification and process qualification sit with the certificate holder and the regulator. We are not a repair station and we hold no approval. We service the machine, never the part.
Not for service purposes. A cladding head, a powder path and closed-loop monitoring are mechanisms a welding cell does not have, and they fail in ways a welding cell does not. Treating them as the same thing is how a quote comes back wrong.
Five fields to start, and no obligation either way. We reply with an assessment and, where site or bench work makes sense, a written scope and a fixed fee for your approval.
