Raycus fiber laser source service and repair

Raycus is the source inside a very large number of the imported fiber cutting and welding machines running in North America. The install base is large and the units are capable. What is thin is the local service layer, and that is a different problem from a bad laser.

Reading the label before you call

Raycus publishes its designation convention in its own operation manuals, and it is worth two minutes of your time because it already answers most of what a service company needs to ask. The RFL-C prefix marks a continuous-wave source. The number after it is the output power in watts. Further characters carry the wavelength, the length of the delivery cable and the cooling type, water or air.

So the label on your source answers the first three questions anybody will put to you. Photograph it and send it. It is the single most useful thing you can do before the first conversation and it costs nothing.

The groups, and why the difference matters for service

Raycus's own manuals separate the continuous-wave range into groups, and which group a unit belongs to changes what a service conversation looks like. The Global series, carrying a -CE marking, is the export range, and official guides cover its lower-power S and H variants. The HP series is a separate group across the mid-power units. Multi-module units, marked M, are the high-power end; an official guide covers a 30 kW unit at 1080 nm.

The practical difference is architecture. A single-module source and a multi-module source do not fail in the same places and are not evaluated the same way, so the scope and the price differ. Knowing which you have before anyone travels is why we ask for the source label rather than the machine brand.

Raycus also publishes pulsed products. No pulsed family name is printed here, because no official English product page for them was reachable when this page was written and our source ledger records that. If you have a pulsed Raycus unit, send the label: the absence of a name on this page is a statement about our sourcing, not about what we accept.

What owners describe when they call about a source

In the customer's own words it is usually one of a short list. No output at all, with the machine otherwise behaving normally. Output that has fallen away over months, so cutting that used to work no longer does. A protection or interlock condition that trips and takes the laser offline. A delivery connector or cable that has been damaged, often visibly. An error on the operator panel that names the laser rather than the machine.

Those are descriptions, not diagnoses, and we are not going to offer a diagnosis from a description - that is the thing this trade does worst. What the description does is tell us whether to start at the source, the delivery, the head or the control, which is what makes a first visit worth paying for. Where a symptom points somewhere other than the source, the symptom index says which page covers it.

What we accept, stated plainly

Raycus sources are accepted for evaluation and component-level service, on site or on a bench. That includes units outside any remaining support arrangement, units that came with a second-hand machine and no history, and units whose importer or dealer no longer carries the line.

PhaseX Laser Services is an independent service company. We are not an authorized Raycus service centre, agent, representative or affiliate, and we do not perform manufacturer warranty work. Where a unit is under an active manufacturer warranty we work only inside a scope the seller or manufacturer has authorized in writing - and if your unit is in that position we will tell you to go to them first.

We do not promise a specific repair before diagnosis, and we do not certify a source to its original published specification where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable. Both limits are on every page of this site for the same reason: they are the two promises this industry makes most freely and keeps least often.

Questions owners ask

Can a Raycus source be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

That is what an evaluation establishes, and it is not answerable from a description. What can be said is that "replace the source" is often the only option a seller is set up to offer, and it is not always the only option that exists. The evaluation fee is quoted in writing first, so finding out costs a known amount.

How do I tell which Raycus model I have?

Read the label on the source itself rather than the machine plate. The RFL-C designation, the power in watts and the cooling type are encoded there, per Raycus's own manuals. A photograph of that label is the most useful thing you can send.

Are you an authorized Raycus service partner?

No. We are independent, we are not an authorized Raycus service centre, agent or affiliate, and we do not do warranty work for them. Raycus and its model designations are theirs and identify equipment only.

My machine is a different brand but the source says Raycus. Is that normal?

Entirely normal, and the most common point of confusion on imported machines. The machine builder, the source maker and the controller maker are usually three different companies.

Do you work on multi-module high-power units as well as single-module?

Both are accepted for evaluation. They are different architectures, so the evaluation is scoped and priced differently - which is why we ask which one you have before quoting rather than after.

Tell us what the machine is doing

Five fields to start, and no obligation either way. We reply with an assessment and, where site or bench work makes sense, a written scope and a fixed fee for your approval.
