Service for imported fiber laser cutting machines

A large share of the fiber cutting machines running in North America were imported, bought on price and capability, and are now several years old. They work. What has thinned out is the support behind them, and that is a different problem from a bad machine.

The situation these machines are actually in

The pattern repeats across all nine platforms on this page and it has nothing to do with build quality. A machine is bought through an importer or a regional dealer. The technician who knew it moves on, or the dealership changes hands, or the importer stops carrying the line. The machine is still cutting and still earning, and the number that used to answer no longer does.

Then something goes wrong and the owner discovers three things at once. The source, the head and the controller are three separate manufacturers, so no single vendor owns the fault. The parts exist, but identifying the right one means knowing which of those three made the subassembly. And most of the people who will pick up the phone are selling a new machine rather than fixing this one.

That gap is what this page is about. A machine with years of life left in it does not need replacing because the support behind it moved on.

Why "who made it" is three questions, not one

On a typical imported cutting machine the frame and motion carry the machine builder's name and almost nothing else does. The source is from one manufacturer, and the families we have verified are listed on our laser source repair page. The head is from another, listed on our cutting head repair page. The controller, the drives and the operator software are from a third, and on these machines they very often come from a single vendor's control ecosystem covering all three together.

This is a commercial problem before it is a technical one. It is why a fault gets passed between suppliers, why "it is the laser" and "it is the machine" can both be asserted by people with no incentive to find out which, and why a company that will look at all three is worth calling. We tell you which of the three the fault sits in and what can be established about it. That answer is worth having even if you then have somebody else do the work.

The nine platforms, and what is verified about each

Each entry carries what the machine builder publishes on its own site in English. Where it publishes no current series page, the entry says so and asks for the nameplate rather than naming a series we have not read. All nine are accepted for evaluation and service as complete machines.

Bodor

Jinan Bodor CNC Machine Co., Ltd.

The builder publishes these machine series on its own English site: P series, i series, SC series, Dream / H / A / C

Accepted for evaluation and service as a complete machine - source, head, controller, drives and motion - on site across the United States and Canada. Start a request.

HSG Laser

No current English series page from this builder was reached when this page was written, so no series is named here. Send the designation printed on the machine or source label. Where the manufacturer publishes no current page for a series, the label is the one authority both sides can read, and a service call routed from a guessed model number is a wasted visit for everybody.

What we accept on these machines

Evaluation and service of the complete machine: the source and its delivery, the head with its optics and sensing, the controller, drives and bus, the motion, and the utilities around them - and, as often as not, the question of which of those the fault is in. On site across the United States and Canada, or on a bench where a subassembly is better looked at off the machine.

That includes machines whose builder has no support presence here, machines bought second-hand with no history, and machines somebody else has already worked on. None of those is a reason for us to decline, and the last one is more common than people expect to hear said out loud.

What we will not do: tell you the cause before looking; certify a machine to its original published specification where the original acceptance data and the corresponding standards are unavailable; or carry out work on a unit under active manufacturer warranty outside a scope the seller has authorized in writing.

What to send so the first reply is useful

Four things, none of which need a technician. The machine builder's name and the designation on the machine plate. The source make and model from the label on the source itself, which is usually a different name. The controller or software name from the operator screen. And what changed: what the machine was doing when the behaviour started, and what it does now.

With those four we can usually say which subsystem to look at first and what an evaluation would involve. Without them the honest answer is that we would be guessing, and a guess costs you a visit.

Questions owners ask

My machine builder has no service presence here any more. Can you still help?

That is the main reason this page exists. We are independent, so we are not waiting on a manufacturer authorisation to look at your machine. Send the machine plate, the source label and the controller name and we will tell you what can be established.

The laser source and the machine are different brands. Who do I call?

On most imported machines they are different, and that split is exactly where faults get bounced between suppliers. We look at the machine as one system and tell you which part the fault sits in.

Can you get parts for these machines?

Parts for the common sources, heads and controllers are generally obtainable. What is usually missing is the identification step, because the right part depends on which of the three manufacturers made the subassembly. We evaluate parts and sourcing as part of the scope rather than promising a specific part before seeing the machine.

Is it worth repairing a machine this old?

Often, and the arithmetic is yours rather than ours: what the machine earns per shift against the evaluation fee and a written scope. You get both numbers in writing before anyone travels, which is what lets you make that call instead of taking our word for it.

Do you work on machines another company has already opened?

Yes. It is common and it is not a reason to decline. It does mean the evaluation has to establish the current state of the machine rather than assume the original one.

Tell us what the machine is doing

Five fields to start, and no obligation either way. We reply with an assessment and, where site or bench work makes sense, a written scope and a fixed fee for your approval.
